Algol is a sans serif and modular typeface, which could be defined as a science fiction typeface. It is inspired from the phototypesetting era when many typefaces of this kind were designed, from ITC bauhaus, to Pipeline, to Soul, to Vero, to Harry to ITC Ronda. The Simple geometric shapes, and the even stroke weights create a strong graphic presence, some of the letters stand out, others are reassuring, but the whole shows a strong and original identity. Many uses of these fonts were visible on book covers, especially in long series and sagas of science fiction novels as pocket book or the famous ’Fighting Fantasy Books‘.The name Algol is a tribute to an old sci-fi fanzine (see the first covers of the magazine on the left) created by Andrew Ian Silverberg in New York City in 1963.
