Horizon is a strong, condensed display slab font with a wooden type feeling, commonly associated with American Old West folklore. Its shapes can also be classified as Antique, Egyptian, French Clarendon, or Italian Clarendon. In the 19th century, these designs were referred to as “Italian” due to the exotic appearance of their reverse-contrast serifs, despite having no clear connection to Italy.
Beyond this arbitrary naming debate, Horizon is a stylistic synthesis of various archetypal sources from the early 20th century to the present day. It embodies the defining characteristics of these classic letterforms, widely used in large formats such as broadside posters, circus and carnival advertising, Western movie titles, street signage, basketball jerseys, and university logos.
By blending a contemporary aesthetic with the attributes of a modern, functional Latin-script font, Horizon bridges the past and present.
